Latin Name: Staphylea trifolia
Size: 18 – 24 inches
This unique native small tree or large shrub grows as tall as 18 feet at a medium or fast rate. Grows in a variety of moist soils and is moderately shade tolerant. Drooping clusters of cream, bell-shaped flowers; attractive, dark-green, trifoliate leaves; greenish bark textured with white cracks; and interesting fruit. The fruit, which changes from green to yellow to brown resembles Chinese lanterns.
